PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES STATEMENT

For Sergio Rebelo - Integrative Therapist | Psychosexual & Relationship Psychotherapist (in training)

In addition to my adherence to the Codes of Ethics of my professional organisations, the College of Sex and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I hold additional professional boundaries.

Beyond my life as a therapist, I am an openly non-monogamous, gay and kinky human. I live and work in the heart of London so the chances of me encountering clients in LGBTQIA+ and kink spaces, or on dating apps, are quite possible. This means I have a personal and ethical obligation to share my professional boundaries with potential, present and past clients.

Social Media

I hold public facing therapy profiles. I do not engage with clients via these platforms. I do not actively seek or follow clients. If you choose to follow my content, understand that social media demands a particular way of showing up (short form, hooks, quick information) meaning nuance gets missed. There may be views or posts you may disagree with or equally resonate with. I encourage that if this is the case, to please bring it into discussion in sessions.

Queer & Kinky Spaces

If you are active within LGBTQIA+ and/or kinky communities, and we knowingly know we have a potential to bump into each other, we will discuss and agree on how we would navigate such an occurrence at the start of our work together.

Dating Apps

Similarly, we may ‘see’ each other on dating apps.

If I recognise a client, past or present, on a dating app, I will block them if possible to prevent their profiles from being visible to me in future. If a client sees me on a dating app, I ask them to do the same.

I am always open to talking with clients about their thoughts and feelings arising from seeing me as their therapist on a dating app or in community or play spaces.
